Gorinchem, 6 July 2017 - The board of the SCV Foundation has decided to phase out the HACCP certification programme. Over the past few years, the number of HACCP certificates has decreased dramatically, and that downward trend has only accelerated recently. In order to prepare for the moment when the number of certificates no longer justifies the continuation of the course programme, the board of SCV and the CCvD have decided to phase out the certification programme over the next few years.
The board has made this decision with the knowledge that there are fortunately enough alternatives for the HACCP programme in the market for all certificate holders. Extending the phase-out period will give certificate holders enough time to transition to another food safety programme.
Our programme will be phased out over a period of three years, starting on 1 January 2018 and ending on 1 January 2021. HACCP certificates issued after 1 January 2018 must have an expiration date of 1 January 2021. Starting on 1 January 2020, no new certificates will be issued. Any certificates issued based on the HACCP certification programme, and which have not expired, been terminated, suspended or withdrawn by 1 January 2021, will no longer be considered valid from that date.
The SCV will strive to maintain acceptance of the HACCP certification programme after 1 January 2018, and to monitor the quality and image of the programme and continue it at the current level.
Certification institutions are asked to inform their clients of the phase-out of the HACCP programme, its consequences and possible alternative programmes in a timely manner. SCV will prepare a letter that CIs can use to inform their certificate holders. This letter is expected to be available by October 2017, or earlier if possible.
